GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!

4th Grade – 8thJanuary 2327

COMETS, ASTEROIDS, METEORS & IMPACTS!
What exactly are comets, asteroids and meteorites? Where do they come from?  And what happens when they hit close to home….literally?!  

Strategic Air & Space Museum invites you and your students out to discover our newest exhibit opening at the beginning of February called, “GREAT BALLS OF FIRE“.  Your students will learn all about comets, asteroids and meteorites.  They’ll be submerged in a cosmic experience where they’ll get to:

* See the result of cosmic impacts throughout our solar system, including impacts here on Earth!
* Learn how to spot a meteorite
* Protect the Earth from a devastating asteroid impact
* Explore the kilometer-wide Barringer Crater in Arizona
* Play “What Are the Odds” and learn all about the chances of a “global killer”
* View frame-by-frame a high speed explosive impact much like an asteroid would produce
* What actually is a ‘shooting star’?
* And much more!

From Earth to the Universe

Leave your spacesuits at home! From Earth to the Universe explores our place in the cosmos from the comfort of our very own planet. Discover the many patterns in the night sky with our giant Star Wheel.  Learn about the various types of telescopes, how they work, and what they can see. Explore the hidden treasures of the night sky through beautiful astronomical imagery provided by both NASA and local astronomers.  From Earth to the Universe is also home to an extensive meteorite collection that nicely complements our fantastic Great Balls of Fire! exhibit. 

 

PLUS, spend time in our Astro Lab and view one of our brand new, space-themed planetarium programs!

This highly interactive exhibit is available for field trip groups February 1 – May 4, 2012 

 

Cost: $3 per person (Students and Adults)
 

90-minute Time Slots:
9:30am - 11:00am*
11:00am-12:30pm**
12:30pm – 2:00pm*

*Limit 90 students per time slot   **Limit 60 students for 11-12:30 slot

*Yes or no to bringing sack lunch to eat here or do extra simulator rides.
*THREE preferred dates (Ex: Oct. 5, Oct. 12, and Nov. 13)
*Preferred time slot for each date (9:30am, 11am OR 12:30pm)

 

NOTE: Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow for check-in.

NOTE: The Museum is closed on Wednesdays during the school year.
